Bodyamr Fashion Designers Bodyamr Biography
Bodyamr's understatedly sexy jersey dresses have proved a sell-out in their first season at Harrods. Now on their second order these figure-skimming pieces for body-conscious women are flying out as soon as they hit the salesfloor. Harrods Designer Studio buyer Vivienne Simons says, 'Bodyamr really stands out at the moment because it's so clean compared to everything else – sophisticated without being too complicated, wearable but edgy. The most popular piece for us has been the Swoop dress, a long-sleeve high-neck dress in silk jersey with a sexy drape down one side which puts a new spin on the '80s version of a tight sexy dress. It's a combination of high glamour with understated chic.' Bodyamr designer Amr originally trained in interior design until he was taken under the wing of revered interior designer Nicky Haslam. A Swarovski-jewelled T-shirt Amr gave to Haslam was so well-received it started Amr on his detour down the road to fashion fame and fortune. Specialising in contemporary glamour for confident women he is already working on the Bodyamr jewellery collection with a denim range next in the pipeline.
Bodyamr has gained a cult international following since it launched in 2004. The Omani-born designer Amr (pronounced ‘Armour’), who started out customising vintage t-shirts, counts Tom Ford and Claudia Schiffer amongst his fans. However the label is now more about glamorous dresses that t-shirts. With a nod to Madame Grès and a definite 80s influence, Amr’s signature pieces include gorgeous draped, silk-jersey dresses and jumpsuits which fluidly follow the contours of the body.
